Road Hazards and the Motorcycle Rider

Motorcycle riding can be fun and is on the rise, partly due to the large increase in gasoline prices. Riding a bike can be far less expensive than driving a car. However, one consequence of new riders is that they are inexperienced, and may not be fully aware of the numerous hazards which are present on many of the well traveled roads. Seemingly simple road conditions such as an uneven pavement or a loose rock in the road that would never bother a car, can be extremely dangerous for a motorcyclist and be the cause of a serious motorcycle accident.

One key thing for a new motorcyclist is to be constantly on guard and aware of their surroundings. A car who quickly changes lanes without a signal can be deadly, as well as something as simple as something wet on the pavement. Wet leaves, or debris and pose a hazard. Learn ahead of time the common road hazards for motorcycles and you can possibly avoid serious motorcycle accident injuries.
Common Road Hazards Include:

1. Uneven lane edge - common on freeways, this probably wouldn't be felt by a car or truck, but can present a danger for a bike, especially at a high speed of travel.
2. Uneven pavement - A bumpy road, or one that is in disrepair can also present a significant hazard.
3. Animals and wildlife - from a stray dog to a low flying bird, nature presents a different set of situations for a motorcycle rider. Trying to avoid a collision may not be the best answer, swerving is a common cause of a serious injury accident.
4. Rain, in an area that has not had recent rainfall can be particularly dangerous. Occasional rain makes the roads very slick with motor oil and result in a crash. Standing water in the roadway can cause hydro-planing, and can be deadly.
5. Debris in the road - a thrown tire tread, fallen items or trash carelessly thrown on the road can cause injury and accidents, be aware!
Knowing what to expect can help to alleviate a serious motorcycle accident. One thing to note - always expect the unexpected! If you weren't able to avoid the accident, make sure you avoid another disaster- that of not getting the right personal injury settlement amounts. Consult with an Orange County motorcycle lawyer who can give you the best information and help you to get the best personal injury claim settlement for you as possible.

Why Choose Affordable Motorcycle Parts?

Today, there are a lot of manufacturers and producers who sell different kinds of products targeting a wide range of consumers and customers. This includes practical manufacturers and businessmen. They are very much known for their no-nonsense approach to business and they do not actually complicate their process of meeting demand with supply which makes them very popular in the business world. In fact, they make it so much easier that even if at times when the quality of their products is not really at par with other provisions in the market, consumers still reach for them because of their affordability and better accessibility.

This is why many motorcycle owners prefer these kinds of motorcycle parts. It is less hassle for them to find the original ones and it saves them time and money. Although there are some people who still prefer buying the high quality ones, more and more are switching to these affordable motorcycle parts because of their availability.
Nowadays, though, manufacturers are offering all three: good quality, affordable prices and accessibility. These are the main reasons why they remain to be a practical choice even when looking for motorcycle parts.
Now, manufacturers have decided to take a cue. In the coming years, affordable motorcycles are expected to perform just as well in the market as the current foreign leading brands, but the main advantage they'll provide or the edge they'll have over more popular brands will remain to be how easy it would be to get a hold of the parts and how they will still be more affordable compared to those of longer-established brands. Motorcycle riders are looking forward to them for everybody's looking for practical options.

People are expected to take advantage of these provisions because the motorbike remains to be most people's chosen mode of transportation to be able to snake through terrible traffic. And to have easy access to these motorcycle parts really just makes the provisions all the more appealing to riders. They no longer have to go to specialty stores just to get the replacement parts and accessories they need because parts of motorcycle are not only accessible through most auto parts retailers but they can also be purchased online. Shipping the parts is never a problem because all buyers have to shoulder is the standard shipping fee; paperwork is taken care of by the online retailers. It's important to mention as well that for orders coming from certain areas, shipping is absolutely free, so that's another attractive provision for cost-saving.
And lastly, buyers can join the retailers' discount club to secure an automatic 5 percent discount for every purchase. So, for those who are looking for motorcycle parts, the search will certainly not be stressful for they are already available in most auto stores; plus, there are online retailers that have them and will ship them straight to your home, wherever in the world you may be, for your personal convenience.

Women on Motorcycles: Silencing the Naysayers

Wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle or desiring to upgrade to a bigger and better bike sound like easy choices to make. But what if you're discouraged from doing so from those closest to you (or not so close). Or what if you don't believe that you can.
Well I can relate. I had dreamed of riding a motorcycle since I was 20 years old. I didn't get my license until I was 29 years old. One of the main factors that contributed to this was the response I received from my friends and family when I expressed my interest in doing so. They would tell me that it was dangerous or that I was crazy! Others would express concern at my small stature and cruelly mock that I would need to touch the ground if I was to ride a motorbike. There were even the select few that would suggest that females could not to ride motorcycles!
Eventually, it wore my enthusiasm and excitement down. I started to believe that I could not do it and that I was not capable of even learning how to ride. So I didn't do anything for a long time. Suddenly, I realized that I had let the naysayers turn me into my own worst naysayer!

I realized things had to change, I could not let others tell me that I couldn't do something, but most importantly, I couldn't doubt myself and discount my dream any longer. I had to learn to ignore the naysayers.
Here's how to silence the naysayers - from others and yourself.
Curbing the naysaying
First acknowledge their concern and reassure them that you have considered this carefully and that it's something you really want to do. If some of their points are valid, it's okay to consider them. It can only help you.
If the naysayers are people that are negative and jealous of you. Don't share your plans with them. It may be wise to ask yourself if you want people like that in your life, especially if they are prepared to put you down.
You may or may not receive support from these people, but the main thing is that you spoke up for yourself.
Trust yourself
The naysaying must be silenced within yourself. It's okay to feel nervous and a bit fearful. But don't forget, you have considered this, you have done your research and it's something you really want to do. What could be wrong with that?
Trust and believe in yourself that you are capable of doing this. Honor the fact that this is about you living your life the way you want and fulfilling an aspiration.

When the naysaying begins, challenge it. For example, my naysaying told me that I could not ride a bigger motorcycle because I was too small. I challenged that by reminding myself that there were a lot of accomplished riders of the same stature as me and that it was all about skill and technique.
Find support
Find other motorcyclists, clubs, groups or associations that understand your journey in this and are willing to support you. Every rider was a beginner, or wanted to upgrade to a bigger bike at some point in their riding experience.
Live it
The naysaying may continue to be there in some form or degree. That's okay, doubt is a human element and cannot always be completely erased. Make a decision anyway. Get your license or purchase that bike. You don't live it, until you make that decision. You can do it, MFH believes you can.

Motorcycle Selection

The motorcycle selection has always been a topic of discussion which requires updates as many brands are available in the market. As a customer of the product, you are must be aware of the performance parameters of the motorcycle which suit your needs. Following are some parameters which may be useful criteria to select a motorcycle:
Cubic centimetre capacity (cc) - the displacement of the piston in cylinder of the motorcycle; greater capacity means more power but if you increase the cc the Km/h average reduces. Both the parameters are inversely proportional. Your selection must fulfil your need. You need to decide whether you want power or mileage from the motorcycle. The commercial products up to 110 cc give good mileage and as you reach to 1000cc the mileage goes on reducing.

BHP - the brake horse power decides the pickup. Greater the value gives better pickup. More cc means greater pickup but less average. Select the motorcycle with optimum BHP so that the mileage is not compromised and you get good pickup.
Net Power - the motorcycle produces power at certain RPM. Higher the power, the better is the performance. For example a motorcycle can produces 6.15 KW at 7500RPM.
Cooling Type - the cooling of engine with air or oil is present in motorcycles. The oil cooled engines give better performance as compared to air cooled. Oil cooled engines are costly.
Ground Clearance - higher ground clearance means the motorcycle can be used on rough roads. Little ground clearance can cause the chassis to touch the ground level on speed breakers which is not preferred.
Wheels - The allow wheel is preferred to spoke wheel as it does not get bent. Allow wheels have greater life than spoke wheels. Alloy wheels are costly than spoke wheel.

Brakes - the disc brakes are urgent and give good performance in the motorcycle. The price of the product increases with disc brakes. The drum type brakes are cheaper and those are easily serviceable at garages. The disc brakes are preferred to drum brakes.
Start Type - the self-start motorcycles are costly as compared to kick start motorcycle. The self-start has separate starter electric motor which kick-start does not have. You can select the product based on your budget.
Maintenance - the maintenance of the motorcycle plays important roles in the operative cost. The products with less maintenance cost are preferred as compared to products with higher maintenance. You can have a survey of the motorcycles for the maintenance. Also it should be easily serviceable at the local garages otherwise the time spent to get the service from the authorised service centre of the automobile company is huge.
Availability of Spare - the spares of the motorcycle should easily available in the market as any maintenance should be easy and quick. Do not purchase the product which is not easily serviceable at local garages.
Price - the price of the product is a deciding factor for the purchase. Create a comparative table of the above parameters for the products which will help you to in selection. Thus your choice will be realistic which meets your requirements.

Motorcycle Protection

A motorcycle can be utilitarian, but it can also be a work of art. Whether you view your bike as something to get you from point A to point B or if you think your bike should be in a showroom you need to think about ways you can protect it!
We are currently in the winter months of the year and this time of year coupled with this weather can wreak havoc on your motorcycle. From snow, sleet, rain, salt from trucks, all these things can bring down the value of your motorcycle and damage it. One of the things I want to do is encourage people to think about ways they can protect their motorcycle from the harsh elements.
I don't know about you, but my motorcycle is one of my favorite things to play with and I want to keep it for a long time. The only way I can do that is to properly care for it. If you are like some people, then your mode of transportation is your motorcycle. If you experience bad weather, are you prepared to countless time time cleaning off the elements? Do you really want to have to sit down on a wet seat? A cover for your motorcycle can be the best piece of gear to buy so you don't have to worry about your bike getting wet.
You may think that you are safe because your motorcycle is in a garage, but not so. Dust and mildew can build up in a garage, also causing damage. To put it mildly, there is only one way to properly protect your motorcycle, and that is to make sure it is covered up.
There are a variety of ways to cover a motorcycle out there. If you own a garage then a simple dust cover can do the trick. Dust is not good for any of your motorcycle parts. Purchasing a dust cover is a small monetary investment on the longevity of your motorcycle.
If your motorcycle is not indoors then a conventional cover will do the trick. The best thing to do is to research the different covers out there and get one fast! The thing is, there are different covers that fit different bikes so you have to pay attention to the details.
Some of my favorite motorcycle covers are made by Pilot Automotive, Nelson-Rigg, and Dowco. With any of these brands you can't go wrong. Some of them are even made so you can put them on your motorcycle after a ride. So you don't have to worry about the head of the pipes melting the cover. Most of them are waterproof and are designed to fit over windshields.
I hope you take my advice. I hope to ride my motorcycle for a long time and the only way I can do that is to take proper care of it. Happy riding!
